Character’s Full Name: Giovanni (no last name given; occasional title is “of the land”)
Fandom: Pokemon Adventures
Are they from: An anime, book, manga, video game, etc.: Manga based on a video game!
Age of Character: Never stated, but I’m going to say about 40 at the point in canon I’m taking him from.
Point in Canon: Right before the Fire Red/Leaf Green arc.
History:
Bulbapedia goes here.
History is here! The only real development beyond what’s mentioned there is that in the HGSS arc his whereabouts are currently unknown, as when Silver and Green went to go check up on him in Silver’s hideout-y thing he wasn’t there. That isn’t relevant to the point in canon I’m playing him from, so!
Personality:
Giovanni is very much what one would expect of the head of a far-reaching criminal organization. He’s cold, calculating, and cruel, and will do whatever it takes to reach his goals-which mainly involve gaining large amounts of money and power. Of course, it’s entirely possible that one wouldn’t know that upon first meeting him-when interacting with those who don’t know of his illicit dealings, he can come off as affable, intelligent, cultured, and even charming… if a bit dorky and easily pushed around. Of course, in all probability, it’s an act designed to throw those people off their guard so he can figure out what makes them tick. He’s not entirely above attacking family members of his opponents to get them to comply with his plans or using similar underhanded tactics. He is exceptional at figuring out his opponents’ minds, and is incredibly good at planning out fights right down to how many seconds it will take to defeat an opponent or to dodge a move. He’s also good at planning heists and schemes of various sorts… although, they can seem a bit… out there. But what can you expect from a man who has an airship with a fold-out midair battle stadium and who can use a motto like “Raid On the City Knock Out Evil Tusks” without bursting into laughter halfway through?
Oddly enough, though, he does have something of a sense of honor. He respects powerful enemies rather than considering them worthless, and will even offer that they join his organization rather than suffer inevitable defeat at his hands. Of course, if they refuse, he won’t pursue it-while he’s incredibly stubborn, he doesn’t go after things that are very obviously impossible. If he’s simply outmatched, he’ll swallow his pride and retreat until a more opportune moment, but he won’t give up on it. He’s usually rational-minded, but there are a few occasions where his emotions can get the best of him. If someone does manage to defeat him, he will have nothing but utmost respect for that person, and will occasionally even help them out in a sticky situation-though, usually only if it benefits his plans. He also tends to be a bit of a backseat driver, both when it comes to non-combat and combat situations. When watching someone fight, he usually gives them (fairly decent) advice that they may or may not want; when in a fight himself, he’ll usually critique his opponent’s fighting style.
He’s also not unnecessarily cruel; he does what he deems necessary to accomplish his goals. He’s also of the belief that well-treated subordinates produce better results. While he will berate them for failure, he doesn’t abuse them, and he firmly believes in rewarding good service. Rather than offing subordinates who fail him, he usually sends them off for more training. Of course, all bets are off if you actually betray him, in which case you can expect something far worse than a baseball bat to the kneecaps. He also cares deeply for his family members, and if they are kidnapped or somehow harmed, he will do whatever it takes to get them back… or take revenge on whoever harmed them.
Magical Powers/Weapons/Skills:
Giovanni doesn’t have any abilities beyond that of the average human. He is quite athletic, though; while he usually doesn’t have to hold his own in a fight, he theoretically could, as he’s fast, strong, and can take a reasonable amount of damage before going down. He does have something of a weakness in that regard, though-while his fighting prowess is usually unaffected, recently he’s been having borderline random episodes triggered by a vaguely-explained illness that attacks his heart and lungs. It can hit him at any time, so it’s definitely a weakness-especially since it’s heavily implied that it’s in its advanced stages and will eventually kill him.
Information on the Pokemon he has in the game is here.
Other Abilities:
Giovanni is highly intelligent and knowledgeable about quite a few subjects, though a great deal of them are specific to his world. He is the authority on ground-type Pokemon, and discovered a few of their evolutions before they were officially recognized by scientists. He’s also well read in geology and paleontology, though the latter is… certainly specific to his world. While not a scientist himself, he does take a significant interest in genetic experimentation, and he knows the basics of it. He’s not really technologically inclined in the sense that he’s good at making and fixing machinery and electronic devices, but he does catch on to how to use them fairly quickly.
It is quite possible that he is good at embroidery. This is totally manly, okay.

…Well, this is interesting. A bit of a setback, but I can’t say it’s that bad of one.
I’ll consider this to be a vacation, then. It’s certainly scenic enough, at least… though a bit confined. It’s somewhat annoying that some of my belongings are gone, as well-no one has seen four red-and white balls with buttons in the middle of them, I assume?
Ah, well. They’ll turn up eventually. I’m quite sure of it.
I suppose I’ll introduce myself-I’m Giovanni of Viridian City, if that means anything to anyone. I suppose nobody knows anything about our situation beyond what we’ve already been told?
Third-Person Sample Post:
After getting his belongings together and taking a few hours to get used to using the “Prayer Book” (or whatever it was called; Giovanni, being not particularly religious, found the whole thing somewhat quaint), he headed out to the edge of town. From what he’d read, if he tried to actually leave the city he wouldn’t survive… and he didn’t feel like there would be much use to it, anyway. Still, the vast, blank expanses of desert were strangely relaxing to look at while he thought things over.
So he was at the mercy of some goddess, huh? That was certainly inconvenient. Presumably she had some sorts of Arceus-style abilities that would make any resistance difficult… though, this one seemed fairly benevolent. The problem was the other one.
Who happened to be responsible for all this. He was certainly much more frustrated by the whole situation than he let on. This was the worst possible time, as well… as far as he knew, he didn’t have much time left. He had finally admitted to himself that actual global takeover would be unlikely to happen within his lifetime, even if he managed to find some sort of absurdly powerful Pokemon that would allow him to do so. Really, right now… all he wanted to do was find his son. Just when he’d come close to being able to find him, after thinking he never would…
He sighed. How long would he be here? Would he die before he got to leave? Would he have less time if he was sent back?
Perhaps it would be easier to take things into his own hands rather than to wait on this goddess to work things out. Yes… maybe that was it. After all… many people considered the Legendary Pokemon to be gods and goddesses, but they could be captured like a common Magikarp. If the same held true in this case… how hard could taking down a goddess be?

Do you have any questions?: Will Giovanni’s Pokeballs still work, or would he have to keep a bigger Pokemon in the stables?
